QUICK GUIDE

After following this quick guide, you'll have created your very first custom song. We'll go over the very basics and minimum steps you need to go through to create your custom songs. We recommend you follow the guide with the provided material, but if you believe you are ready, feel free to take the steps and just apply them to your own song.

Necessary Files

Editor on Fire

If you haven't already, you will need to download Editor on Fire.

To install it to your PC, open the zip file eof1.8RC13 and place the folder in the path you want to install it. We recommend :

    C:\Programs\eof1.8RC13

To open Editor On Fire, simply double click on eof.exe. You may be asked if you trust this program for the first time. Select 'More Info' and then run anyway.

Kumbaya Files

Before we continue with Editor on Fire, you'll need a song file and guitar tab file. For this guide we'll provide you with both files. We'll be creating a custom song for Kumbaya.

  1. Download the song and tab file.
  2. Create a folder where you'll keep your custom song project files. We'll use:
    D:\Immerrock CDLC\Folksong_Kumbaya
  3. Place your downloaded files in that location.

First time Setup

We're going to first setup Editor on Fire to our preferences to create songs for Immerrock.

1. If you haven't already launch Editor on Fire by double clicking on eof.exe file.

OpenEofExe

2. Select Files -> Preferences -> Preferences or press F11.

3a. Change the Color Set to Immerrock.

3b. Change Top of 2D Pane shows: RS Sections+Phrases

Creating A New Song

Let's get started with our custom song finally!

1. Start by selecting File -> New.

2. Navigate to your Custom Song project folder. Ours is:

    D:\Immerrock CDLC\Folksong_Kumbaya\

And select Folksong_Kumbaya.wav and select Open.

Eof-Kumbaya-Waveform

Importing the Guitar Tab

Our next step is going to be to import our Guitar Tab. However, we need to import it to the correct track.

1. Go to Song -> Track -> PART REAL_GUITAR_22.

Eof_ChangeTrack

Notice how we now have 6 'lanes', as well as the tuning for the chart. Ensure you select the Expert tab.

Eof_RealGuitarTrack

2. Select File -> Import -> Guitar Pro or press F12.

3. Select the file Folksong_Kumbaya.gp5

4. You'll be asked if you want to import the time signatures. Select Yes.

5. And select the GGLead track. And select Import.

GGLeadSelect

You will now see notes appear in the lanes. These notes however, are NOT SYNCED to the music.

Eof-FirstNotes

Syncing the Beats to the Music

Syncing to beats to the music is probably our most important step. Thankfully Editor on Fire gives us many easy ways to accomplish this.

Two utilities to double check beat syncing are

  • Metronome. Edit -> Metronome or press M.
  • Claps. Edit -> Claps or press C.

The Metronome will play a click sound every Beat (The vertical lines with arrows on top -->). While Claps will play a click sound on every note.

Feel free to use these as you wish, depending on the situation and what you find more intuitive.

Its time to take our first listen to our work in progress song.

1. Turn on Claps by selecting Edit -> Claps or press C.

2. Select play on the Green Arrow on the Top Right corner or press Spacebar.

2b. You also have controls to go to start, fast backwards, fast forwards, and go to end.

Eof-FirstNotes_Play

You should hear that the notes come in too quickly, before the music.

A good place to start is to grab the beat in the 2nd measure with the mouse, and drag it to the left to when the chords of the song come in.

EoF_SyncMusic-1

Press play again, and keep adjusting that 4th beat, until you hear the claps of the notes match with the music.

Eof_110and120

Seems like we get good results at 110BPM (Beats per minute). When you are in the wild making your own custom songs, you will have to find out by trial and error. Some songs have very clean beats, others rush and drag with the feel of the music. You might have to edit the beats multiple times.

We know the song is at 110 BPM. So let's set the first beat to exactly 110 BPM.

3. Select the First Beat by clicking on it.

4. Navigate to Beat -> BPM -> BPM Change.

BPMChange

5. Set the BPM to 110 and select OK.

BPMChange110

Notice that the 4th Beat, has the default 120 BPM. Let's delete that change.

6. Select the 4th Beat with 120 BPM change.

6a. Select Beat -> Delete Anchor

DeleteBPMAnchor

You should see something like this.

Testing your custom song

At this point, we have enough to export your custom song and start playing it.

Exporting Your Custom Song

Before we generate our custom song, we must first define the 'Arrangement' of our current track. This will tell EoF and IMMERROCK whether a track is Lead, Rhythm, or Bass.

1. Make sure the Song -> Track has PART REAL_GUITAR_22 selected.

2. Make sure you have *Expert selected.

TIP. The asterisk (*) character, is informing us that we have notes under that track/difficulty.

Eof_TrackDiffSelected

3. Select Track -> Rocksmith -> Arrangement Type -> Lead

Eof_SelectArrangement

To generate or export your Custom Song so it's playable in IMMERROCK is very easy.

4. Select File -> Save

EoF will have generated your custom song for IMMERROCK inside your eof project folder. For us the path looks like:

D:\Immerrock CDLC\Folksong_Kumbaya\Folksong - Kumbaya - Expert\

You can grab the generated Folder \Folksong - Kumbaya - Expert\ and copy that to your headset to try out.

We have a Guide on Installing Custom Songs.

Adding Sections

Song Sections are allow you to open the Phrase Refiner for your custom song and practice a section (Or multiple sections) repeatedly.

PhraseRefiner

It's important to note Song Sections are applied for all arrangements in the custom song.

We'll split our custom song into a few sections.

1. Start by selecting the Beat with the very first note.

Sections_SelectFirstBeat

2. Select Beat -> Rocksmith -> Place RS Section or press Shift + S on your keyboard.

Sections_PlaceRSSection

3. You can select Tag for the section. We'll keep it simple, and select Verse and OK.

Sections_SelectTag

Notice a Red Line gets drawn where we placed our section. As well as the Section text.

Sections_SectionRedLineB

4. We are going to place a section  at Measure 5 - Beat 3. Just before the 10 second mark. By selecting the beat and pressing Shift + S on the keyboard.

Sections_Section2b

5. Another at Measure 9 and 3 Beat, around 18.5 seconds. Selecting the beat and pressing Shift + S on the keyboard.

Sections_Section3b

6. And finally on Measure 13 at beat 3, just after 27 seconds. Select the beat and pressing Shift + S on the keyboard.

Sections_Section4b

You can always check out all the sections in your song by going to Beat -> Events -> All Events. There you can also edit the texts for each section.

Saving your EOF project, will re-generate IMMERROCK files. If you look at the folder for your custom song, it will now contain a Sections.txt file.

Adding Song Information

You can also fill in additional song information. This can be displayed during Song Selection in IMMERROCK, and will be used in a future IMMERROCK update to sort and filter songs.

1. Select Song -> Properties or press F9.

A new window will pop out with extra information. The ones worth filling in are dotted in red.

We are going to fill in the following info.

Adding Lyrics

You can also add lyrics to your songs. To do this, we must change tracks from PART REAL_GUITAR_22 to PART VOCALS, where we are going to add and edit lyrics.

1. Select Song -> Track -> PART VOCALS

Eof_TrackVocals

2. To insert a new 'Lyric Note', position your mouse on the 1st measure and 2nd beat, in the text gap and press 1 on your keyboard.

InsertNote

3. Type in the lyric "Kumbaya, my Lord" and press OK.

EditLyricLine

You'll see a small grey note near the timeline. We need to extend this note to cover the length of the sung phrase.

4. With the note selected, use the close bracket key ']' to increase the not duration or use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Lyric_ExtendNote

Play the song to get a sense of how long each lyric line is sang.

TIP! To see if the lyric is well placed, you can use the Special Playback. Press S+Spacebar to play the audio only from the selected note. Holding S will loop indefinitely until released.

Next, we need to mark the sentence as a Lyric line.

5. Select the lyric. Then select Note -> Lyrics -> Lyric Lines -> Mark, or press Ctrl+X.

lyric_markline

You'll see the lyric line getting a blue highlighter with the same length as it's duration.

lyric_markedline

We have to repeat the same process for each new lyric line.

6. In the middle of Measuer 3, insert a new lyric by placing your mouse at the correct time, press 1 on your keyboard. Enter the lyric "Kumbaya" and select OK. Mark the line with Ctrl - X, then extend the note for as long as it should be.
